Sega Genesis

The Sega Genesis was released in the US in August of 1989. The Sega Genesis was the most popular and best selling console Sega ever created selling over 29 million units worldwide. The system was popular for the then superior graphics and arcade style titles such as Shinobi, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, and Ghouls n'Ghosts. However once Sega created Sonic The Hedgehog they had a new mascot on their hands. The company began marketing the Sega Genesis as the "cool" more "extreme" alternative to the NES. The most popular of these ads was the one that used the slogan, "Genesis does what Nintendon't!" The Sega Genesis also saw three versions of itself, the second being the most popular, but a third model was created that was even smaller. The system still continues to be popular among classic gaming fans who enjoyed the fast paced arcade titles found on the system.
